The Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Nursing was established in 2008 to address the critical nursing shortage in Texas. After receiving approval from the Texas Board of Nursing, the college began with 44 students in July 2008. The college offers three different tracks to a Bachelor of Science in nursing (B.S.N.): traditional, second degree and RN-to-B.S.N.

In July 2013, the college received approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to offer a Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) degree. The program consists of entirely online classes, so students can balance other responsibilities with advancing their education. The program accepts applicants with a B.S.N., with future plans to offer a RN-to-M.S.N. for registered nurses with an associate degree or diploma, who wish to continue their education.
